El uso continuo y prolongado de la computadora ocasiona padecimientos visuales como miopía, estrés ocular, deshidratación y afecciones de la córnea. Lo afirma el director del Instituto Nacional de Oftalmología de Perú; doctor Jorge Velasco Quiroga; quien destacó que "el 80% de esta población ya presentó algún síntoma, como dolor, mareo, enrojecimiento ocular, sequedad en el ojo, visión doble o lagrimeo".
"El 80% de personas que permanezca por más de ocho horas en la computadora, y que la utilicen por periodos largos, padecen de alguna dificultad ocular. Y es lamentable el repunte de estas patologías, especialmente en la población más susceptible: niños y adolescentes", manifestó el experto.
Asimismo alertó que una mayor exposición del paciente frente al monitor podría complicar estas afecciones oculares. "El calor que emiten los rayos generados por el monitor de la computadora provocan que disminuya la cantidad de lágrimas que produce naturalmente el organismo, lo que deteriora la visión para apreciar los objetos lejanos, y ocasiona la miopía", subrayó.
ADIVINO EL PARPADEO
Normalmente, uno parpadea alrededor de 20 veces por minuto, pero si pasamos mucho tiempo frente al monitor de una computadora esta función disminuye hasta en un 50%, detalló el médico, tras agregar que esta insuficiencia en la lubricación de la córnea podría causar el síndrome de ojo seco, deshidratación de la córnea, conjuntivitis o ulceraciones.
En este sentido, el médico explicó que la aparición de estas afecciones oculares puede reforzarse por la mala ubicación de la pantalla, el reflejo excesivo, el ambiente demasiado cargado, el aire acondicionado, el humo del cigarrillo, el color de las paredes, entre otros factores.
"Si le sumamos el uso cada vez más frecuente de iluminación artificial, el incremento de actividades que implican una visión fina (lectura y escritura), la tensión propia de la vida moderna y la contaminación ambiental creciente, no es extraño que, aun con una agudeza visual óptima, sean numerosos los individuos cuya visión no es confortable", destacó Velasco Quiroga.
RECOMENDACIONES SALUDABLES
Velazco Quiroga indicó que el uso de la computadora no debe ser continuo durante el día, es decir, debemos tomar intervalos para descansar nuestros ojos.
Además, afirmó que el monitor de la computadora causa más cansancio visual que un televisor debido a que cuenta con menor resolución y porque la distancia de uso es mucho menor. Todo esto ocasiona mayor esfuerzo en los ojos.
También indicó que el área donde está ubicada la computadora no debe tener objetos que distraigan la atención de los ojos, tales como stickers, estampas, imágenes o llaveros; ya que estos aumentan el cansancio y distraen la atención de la visión.
Finalmente, invitó a todos los usuarios a realizarse, cómo mínimo, un chequeo cada seis meses, con especialistas oftalmólogos. (Fuente Ministerio Salud del Perú).
