Reconocí a Regina esa tarde del sábado 12, como si nunca antes la hubiese conocido. Caminamos unas diez cuadras para llegar ahí, desde Gante y cruzando frente a Las Vizcaínas. A Rita la conocí mucho antes, allá por 1993, cuando charlamos con ella mi amiga Marlene y yo porque estábamos haciendo nuestra tesis de licenciatura en sociología sobre la subcultura en el rock. Recuerdo que nos dijo que no le gustaba que los jóvenes bailaran “slam” en los conciertos de Santa Sabina, pues sentía que no entendían su música. “No somos La Maldita Vecindad”, nos dijo. La portada de la tesis fue ilustrada con una foto suya como actriz en la película Ciudad de ciegos. Se veía hermosa, con minifalda y mallas negras, y sus labios color carmín. Hoy, tantos años después y en tan diferentes circunstancias, seguía bella, con un vestido casi morado, bajo el velo de la despedida. Encontré lugar en un rincón del recinto para poder contemplarla unos minutos más sin las presiones de una fila de 400 personas que venían detrás. Luego pasamos frente a ella y la vimos en paz, en medio de un escenario impactante de velas, flores y centenares de personas que la ovacionaron. Al salir, tristes y aliviados a la vez, decidí darle a Regina --que ya esperaba con café y bísquets—, un lugar en mi corazón. Al fin y al cabo Rita y ella tenían mucho en común. Estaba bellíisma y luminosa, como si reviviera. Pulpita y yo nos entamos en una de sus mesas.. Pasaron frente a nosotros los músicos, los invitados a la boda, los ‘ecobicicleteros’, los clowns… Y yo pensé: “Estando aquí no estoy”
